Is anyone else BLOWN AWAY by the fact that "The Alphabet Song" and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" are the same song?
I'll give you a second to sing both in case you've spent the past 33 years not noticing and it took 87 hours of Pandora Toddler Radio for things to start getting real.
Add Baa Baa Black Sheep to the list of songs with the same tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azNMzQoTpOY
ReplyDeleteIt just keeps getting weirder and weirder. Did children's song writers have no creativity?!?
DeleteI was, when I initially realized it. :) Also? Baa, baa, black sheep is likewise the same tune. Doesn't being a parent just blow your mind every so often?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the sheep are in on it, too.
DeleteNice. I've thus far avoided children's music, though not intentionally. Yesterday I turned on some toddler tunes to try to distract my sick, fussy baby and was rewarded with a horrified look and loud cry. I switched the the Red Hot Chili Peppers and got a grin. Who is this creature?
ReplyDeleteHa! That's fantastic! I try to mix in a little "real" music, too. When he was teeny, tiny he loved The Black Eyed Peas.
DeleteQuinn loves James Brown...he loves to shake his little butt :)
DeleteI realized this in high school, at my then-3-year-old cousin's birthday. Was pretty blown away by it too. My son likes reggae, African music and bluegrass (not sure where that last one came from).
ReplyDeleteThose three are so much better than Twinkle, twinkle!
DeleteNow I can't get them out of my head!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think you will for the next five years or so.
Deleteso THAT'S why they drive me crazy when sung repeatedly.... Ditto lots of the above moms--my kid likes Dave Matthews and other great bands THANK GOD.
ReplyDeleteI will say that Cole is not exposed to children's music often, except what plays on the Baby First TV that rots my brain all day. He listens to music in the car with us, and likes to dance. :)
ReplyDeleteYes! I was totally blown away when I figured that out!!!!
ReplyDeleteHilarious! Never thought about it but consider my mind blown!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from SITS! :)
Hah! I knew this. There's an episode of Sesame Street (or is it Elmo's World) called Favorite Songs, where by Telly can't decide which is his favorite song - Baa Baa Black Sheep, the Alphabet Song or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. So he combined all 3. :)
ReplyDeleteStopping by from SITS Sharefest.
Did you know you can sing "I'm a Little Teapot" to the Final Jeopordy theme song? The last musical phrase is the same in both songs, and the rhythm of the beginning fits.
ReplyDeleteI hope you've recovered from your shock. Happy Sharefest!
hahaha :) it blew me away too when I finally figured it out! Amazing that we grow up having no idea that we're just singing the same song over and over with different words (maybe that's why we loved them so then!)
